For this project, I white boxed and design a level with two distinct areas/environments using either provided or personally purchased asset packs. The asset packs I ended up using were a MOBA Tower Defense Pack and a Low Poly Caverns pack. The two environments I decided to create were a cave and a forest. I researched inspiration on Pinterest to get an idea of a visual target to strive for, also keeping an eye out for art styles that were close to the aesthetic of the asset packs I chose.

The Design Process

  • Edited materials and created material instances to get the proper colors and emissives I needed in combination with lighting

  • Used the landscape tool and layered landscape painting to paint the proper ground textures for the cave and forest

  • Utilized the foliage tool to paint on large groups of plants

  • Made blueprints to add bounce to the floating rocks, and rotation to the end crystal

  • Created a level fly through using the level sequencer

  • Used lighting and landscape painting as a means to indirectly guide the player through the level
