3D Week 06 (Beginning of Blocktober!)
/I don’t plan on this post being super long compared to some of the others. The past week was spend researching and organizing my Pinterest board in preparation for #Blocktober! What is Blocktober? Well, similar to Inktober, Blocktober is essentially showing the progress of game environment block outs by level designers. (I want to say that this started off with Naughty Dog level/environment designers showing screenshots of their blocked out levels in Maya on Twitter.)
This inspired me to practice my level block out skills in Maya, by creating some sort of environment. To give myself a little bit of practice, I took a concept art and tried to block out the small environment in Maya. It took me a couple days to do, and here are a couple screen shots of it with the UE4 Mannequin for scale:

I didn’t expect it to turn out super great, but I think once I start having designs planned out and getting a hang of Maya shortcuts, they will get better and faster.
For future weeks, I have no idea how detailed I need to go in terms of blocking out the level in Maya. Should I stick with the same level and keep going into more detail each week, or make a new environment each week? .. I think this will be something I have to figure out as I start to design.
