3D Week 04 (Personal Cannon Study - FFXIV Bertha Cannon)

This past week (and this week), I decided to take the knowledge I learned last week and create a more complex cannon prop. The referenced model I went with was Final Fantasy XIV’s Bertha Cannon (and to my FFXIV friends, it’s an ISHGARDIAN weapon).

This cannon is found in instanced dungeon Stone Vigil and instanced trial The Steps of Faith, both using the Bertha Cannon as a means to fight off dragons. It is also an outdoor house furnishing! Thanks to being used as a furnishing, I was able to get some nice orthographic screenshots to use as references! (My character can be seen in the cannon’s top-down reference)

I took these references and imported them into Maya, scaling them up to match the scale of the UE4 mannequin.

Once that was set, I started to model parts of the cannon separately: the main cannon body, the barricade, and the cannon base.

And below is the cannon all put together!

Next steps in the process involve learning and going into ZBrush and Substance Designer, UVing, and importing the final model into UE4! Please look forward to it!
